Wilbur L. Kirkland

Assistant Treasurer

Wilbur L. Kirkland is a 1969 Cheyney University Graduate. He earned his Bachelors Degree in English Education. Wilbur was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina. His parents, the late Rev. John W. and Lillie Mae Kirkland came to reside in Chester, Pennsylvania when he was 5 years old. He grew up with six brothers: Wilbur, along with five of his siblings and his mother attended Cheyney University. Wilbur met his wife, Elaine, at Cheyney. She earned her Bachelors and Masters Degree from Cheyney University. Wilbur and Elaine share happiness with two sons: Marcus and Brian, a daughter-in-law: Renee, and three grandchildren: Kerri, Marcus Jr., and Alani.

Wilbur played basketball for the Cheyney Wolves, Pittsburgh Pipers, United States Army, 76’ers Camp, Greek, Italian and Swiss teams. He speaks and reads Italian fluently. He is a retired District Manager from Philip Morris USA. Wilbur works hard in his church, Community Baptist of Chester, PA., where he serves as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and Noon Day Bible Study teacher. He serves as treasurer of Greater Chester County Cheyney Alumni Chapter, member of Delaware Valley Affiliate of National Alliance of Black School Educators as well as NABSE (National Alliance of Black School Educators) and serves on the board of Cheyney Foundation. Wilbur is a mentor in the after school program at his church.

Wilbur believes that he can help the students at Cheyney by working with The Foundation to get the University and the surrounding communities much more involved with each other. Wilbur enjoys watching all sports, studying the Bible, keeping abreast of the news, following the stock market, and helping others. He enjoys his family and church activities..
