Carmen Martinez- Skinner, received the B.S. Degree in Education from
Cheyney State College, now Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in, 1973.
Cheyney prepared her for teaching and life experiences that assisted her
throughout her educational and sales careers. She taught elementary
school from 1974-1978 in Norwalk,Connecticut, Boston, Massachusetts, Seattle,Washington
and Washington,DC.
An opportunity
became available to interview with Johnson Products, Chicago, Illinois,
the makers of Ultra Sheen and Afro Sheen in 1978. Utilizing the teaching
strategies and experiences of Cheyney , she began her career in Sales and
Sales Management. She worked for Johnson Products ten years selling,
merchandising and representing the Ultra Sheen and Afro Sheen lines. She
was then promoted to District Manager for the Northeast East corridor and
then promoted again to Regional Manager for the mid-west and northeast
territories. Added to her responsibilities were Johnson Products
professional line and Moisture Formula cosmetic line.
After leaving
Johnson Products to raise her family (two daughters), she was contacted by
Posner Laboratories, Inc (1988). She again started as a Sales
Representative servicing chains and OTC accounts that carried the Posner
haircare and cosmetic lines. This expanded her horizons to the mid-atlantic
and southeastern parts of the country. She established her self as one of
the leaders within this company and the haircare industry and was
promoted to District Manager, managing sales representatives, covering
New York to Washington, DC.
She was sought
out by Luster Products, Chicago, IL, the makers of Luster’s Pink Oil
Moisturizer, SCurl, PCJ and Designer Touch Products, in 1992 and has been
with them for 15 years. Her current position is North East Regional
Manager (northeast-mid-atlantic regions). Her responsibilities are
managing large accounts in direct correlation with a sales/marketing team
and instrumental in marketing and merchandising new products for this
company. The major chains that she has a direct relationship with are
CVS/ Pharmacy, Rite Aid, and Kmart.
She is married
to Larry C. Skinner, also an alumni of Cheyney University. Two daughters,
Lacey working in the private sector and Laiya a 3rd year
student, currently attending Cheyney University.
